| Definitely more laid back than action packed, this broad and curving beach is actually divided into 2 bays, Kata Yai and Kata Noi. Bordered by rocky headlands Kata Yai offers two kilometres of white sand beach fringed with trees and a few beach restaurants, resorts and a boutique hotel. Just 10 minutes from Patong Beach to the north, Kata Yai offers the perfect location. Kata Noi, the smaller beach, further south, offers seclusion and tranquility. |

| Karon, the second largest of Phuket's principal west coast beaches, is quiet and relaxed. Lots of good local restaurants and a good range of accommodation from small guesthouses to family resorts. The beach has lots of room and is rarely crowded. Snorkelling at the southern end which has a coral reef stretching toward Kata and a small offshore island (Boo Island.) From November to April, Karon offers perfect conditions, but from May to October swimming can be dangerous because of strong undertows, so observe the warning flags. |

| North of Surin, on Phuket's west coast, Bang Tao offers a long stretch of duvet soft, white sand beach where you will find several of the island's best hotels. The area has been carefully developed with no high rise buildings and lots of landscaping. Bang Tao is also home to some of the island's best antiques and artifact shops, local low key restaurants and water sports areas. Guests at the Laguna hotels have the opportunity to use a huge range of indoor and outdoor facilities plus fine dining at the other hotels and, there's even a golf course nearby. |

| Surin's casuarina-lined beachfront is a gathering place for locals and visitors alike to snack on barbecued seafood, enjoy a cool drink and escape the heat of the day. Such a picturesque beach, it's not surprising it's many people's favourite beach in Phuket. Unlike the other busy beaches of Phuket, there's a refreshing absence of jet-skis and speed boats here since Surin lacks a launch area. |

| If relaxation in a small seaside community is what you're after, you'll find Kamala a delight. Located on Phuket's west coast, just north of Patong, it's less hectic that its neighbour. Formerly a quiet, fishing village, Kamala is a beautiful spot in which to relax and enjoy the still peaceful village atmosphere of this scenic, unspoiled beach. The area behind the beach has developed over the last few years giving a greater choice of local places to eat and drink. More secluded resorts nestle higher up amongst the trees on the headland, capitalising on the wonderful sea and mountain views, and only a few minutes walk to a sandy white beach on the northern end. |

| Miles long, deserted and undeveloped, this strand just north of Nai Yang offers peace and serenity for the independent traveller. Steep shelving sands make the swimming unsuitable in the low season (May - October) but its' a great place to walk, get the wind in your hair and get back to nature. |

| Just south of the airport on the west coast of the island, this national park area has a couple of resorts right on the beach. Nai Yang is quiet, serene and fringed by lovely tree-shaded areas which are great for picnics. It's also a lovely spot to enjoy fresh barbecued seafood right on the beachfront where local food vendors often set up shop. |

| At the southern end of Phuket, Nai Harn is one of the island's most beautiful locations. Just a few hotels including Le Royal Meridien Phuket Yacht Club-- and a few bars and restaurants, this area gives the feeling of Phuket many years ago. Fine sand and clear water makes this one of the island's nicest beaches. In the southwest monsoon season (May to October) it can be sometimes be dangerous to swim here because of strong undertows, so do observe the warning flags. |

| Phuket is Thailand's biggest island and is itself surrounded by smaller islands to visit and even to stay on. Some are uninhabited, visited only during the day; some are big enough to be home to small communities and some house hotels and villages. However, none are further than 30 minutes away by speedboat. For that extra 'away from it all' feeling and atmosphere you cannot beat getting off Phuket and experiencing the island atmosphere of Ko Yai, Coral Island or Ko Racha where the sea is just that little bit bluer, the fish more colourful and where the sand is just that much whiter.

| The provinical capital and hub of Phuket. This local town is buzzing every day. Two very busy markets, local department store (Robinson) and large hypermarkets (shopping malls) on the outskirts of town. At night local food vendors, street cafes and funky bars come to life. Good local bus service operates to the main beaches daily. |

| Chalong and Rawai are the home of Phuket's Yachtsmen. Its thick glutenous mud make it ideal for mooring boats, but unsuitable for swimming. Some of the best seafood restaurants on the island are to be found along Chalong Bay. |
